Any physicists here? what do you think of importance of the place where ld;s are thrown? Is air thinner in 1000m and air-resistance smaller than at sealevel?

I'm not a physicist but the higher you are the thinner the air/ less dense. An LD would have less drag at higher levels but produce less lift. The potential for farther throws is there but keeping it in the air on the way back would require tuning and adjustments from when it was thrown at sea level. Maybe even different throwing style, more layover, higher release etc.

Just remember that humidity and temperature affect the density of air as well!
Gravity is also not uniform over the whole planet.
Atmospheric pressure can vary up to 50 mbar where I live and I notice the difference even on my fast catch booms Wink

this came to my mind, because I know that frisbee distance world-records are made in desert in Nevada in 1000m height 250m is world record. 2 finnish players went to compete there last march they did 15-20% better results there than here in Finland....We are not sure what makes that place so special, at least the winds are steady around 10m/s.
My clubmate did 201m meters there and his earlier record was some 160m, winner did 204m and his earlier record was 177m.....they both have competed 10 years+..... Isnīt Kloten/SUI quite high also?
